Curtis Martin was the difference in the Jets turnaround last year, not Chad Pennington. Martin had more than eight carries just once in the Jets first four games in 2002. When Pennington took over for Vinny and Martin was fully installed into the game plan, NY went 8-4.
Why do I contend Martin was the difference? Because Vinny wasn't that bad. He completed 65% of his passes and had a 3/3 TD/INT ratio. His play just didn't result in many points. Is that because Curtis Martin wasn't playing much the first four games? I'll put my money on it.
Redskins aren't that good in the first place. They were 2-3 as a favorite last season. They didn't improve much defensively. Steve Spurrier still doesn't believe in RBs. Trung Canidate??? Puh-leeeze.
Jets win outright, 20-13.
